Vacancy Pastor's Monthly Message for October '17

And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word In Asia. And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. --Acts 15:6-7

Fellow Saints,

God has His plan, and it may, or may not, coincide with our plans, but it will be good! The above text helps us to see that there are times when we humans have plans, but God says no to our plans while giving us another direction to go. We do well to submit to the One who loves us and saved us from the power of the evil one by the life, death and resurrection of His Son.

Grace voted and issued a Call. That pastor accepted another Call. God cares just as much now for Grace congregation as He did the day of the vote. He sees from an eternal perspective, and has a wonderful plan for the future of Grace congregation, and for each of us as well.

We see this in the life of Martin Luther. His dad’s plan was for him to be a lawyer. Because of a lightning storm, Luther planned to become a monk, and did! Luther as a monk learned from God’s Word and saw some things in life that didn’t fit what the Bible said. He planned to discuss those points with other learned men in the church. But God had a bigger plan given His eternal perspective. The debate points - 95 Theses - Luther planned for one purpose, reform of the current church, became the beginning of a Reformation for the world. God used one of His people to help us all rely on Him and His Word for daily life. God changed the church and world!

This reliance on God, and on His Word, is the hallmark of God’s people. Lutheran Christians look to the Word to not only see what God says, but also to align our human thinking to be more and more like the way God thinks. We believe, and by experience come to know, God’s way is THE good way to live. He sent His Son to prove His plan is so much better than what we plan. So, as we celebrate what happened 500 years ago this October 31st, we see that our human plans can be used by God to become even more than what we first thought. And let us pray to be willing to accept in our hearts God’s plan for our lives.

Grace congregation can have confidence in the future because it is the same God today as He was then. We get to plan, and then watch Him make it even better because of His plan. Get ready for a very interesting ride into His plan for the future! He loves Grace, and each of us too.

Blessings in the Savior,

Pastor Joe Ardy
